Building a Dialer
For Windows 95/98

Step 1: Double click the icon on your Desktop labeled "My Computer".
Step 2: Then double click the icon labeled "Dial Up Networking". If
you're using Windows ME, Dial Up Networking can be located
on the left-hand side of the My Computer window, in blue writing.
Step 3: In your Dial Up Networking window, double click "Make new Connection".

Step 4: On this screen, you will be asked to
type a name for the computer you're dialing
Touch America would be the logical choice.
Click "Next" to proceed.

Step 5: Here, you will be asked for an
area code and phone number for your ISP.
Click HERE for a complete list of local
dial up numbers. Click Next once you've
filled in the appropriate number, then
click the Finish button on the following
screen. A Touch America icon should now
reside in your Dial Up Networking window.

Step 6: Place your pointer over the Touch America icon
in your Dialup Networking window and click on it once
with your right mouse button.
Step 7: From the pop-up menu, select "Properties".
A "Touch America Properties" screen should appear.

Step 8: On this screen, you will see the
phone number, the country code, and your
modem. You will need to remove the check
mark next to "Use area code and dialing
properties", since you're using a local
number. Then click on the "Server Types"
tab at the top of the properties screen.
In Windows ME, this tab will be labeled
"Networking".

Step 9: Remove the checks next to
"Log on to Network", "NetBEUI",
and "IPX/SPX Compatible". Only
"Enable Software Compression" &
"TCP/IP" should be checked now.
Next, click on the button over on
the lower right-hand portion of
this screen labeled "TCP/IP
Settings".

Step 10: At the top of this screen, you will
leave "Server assigned IP address" enabled.
Toward the middle of this screen, you need
to move the dot to enable the "Specify Name
Server Addresses" option, and type in both
the primary and secondary DNS numbers.

Primary: 199.96.34.33
Secondary: 199.96.34.34

Also, remove the check next to "Use IP
Header Compression". Then, click "OK"
on this screen, and on the previous one
as well. This should take you back to
the "Touch America" icon.

One again, you will need to right click on this icon
to bring up the pop-up menu. This time, choose Create
Shortcut
. A Windows prompt will come up telling you
that it "cannot place a shortcut here, do you want it
on the Desktop instead?". Just click "Yes" here, and
close out of any open windows to get back to your desk-
top. A "Shortcut to Touch America" icon should be there
with the rest of your icons now. You are ready to dial
up to the Internet!
